Excellent article, Jeff. I too have seen the cowardice on full display these recent years as the so-called “leaders” allow the profession to be further castigated and vilified by zealots. Instead of defending/educating against scurrilous broad-based false allegations, the cowards literally got down on their knees and begged for forgiveness. The only remedy now is courageous leadership.
Thanks, Paula! I’ve gotten a lot of feedback from people in a courageous leadership class that myself and Travis Yates are doing this week. I’m hoping that this is a catalyst to help other people see themselves more clearly. How do you think the people in your network would view some of the things I wrote about in this article?
I think most, it not all, would be on board, especially with the last paragraph.
The problem from where I sit, is that cops are exhausted and afraid to do anything in this climate & risk being singled out. Many cops have seemingly "checked out" and resigned themselves to this new normal. They're in survival mode.
What they need is exactly what you (and Travis) prescribe. I just hope they're up to the challenge.

Agreed! As Dr. Travis Yates said in our training this week, “stand by, the apology tour is coming to your town soon.” Thanks for your support!
Join Travis, me, and others as we put together a tribe of Courageous Leaders at the Courageous Police Leadership Alliance at www.cplalliance.org.
Great insights, thank you!!

Thank you (and Travis) for leading on this issue.
Our pleasure!!!! Keep emboldening us with honest feedback which gives us permission to succeed!
Thanks for saying that. : )
